The Police Command in Niger has apprehended four individuals accused of defrauding unsuspecting members of the public across various markets in the state.In a statement issued on Thursday in Minna, the Public Relations Officer of the Niger Police, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the arrests, noting that the suspects were apprehended on the strength of reliable intelligence at approximately 3 p.m.

on Wednesday.Abiodun explained that the fraudsters were spotted at Izom cattle market, where they were attempting to deceive a person following the sale of his cattle.“Police operatives from the Maje Division were promptly mobilised to the scene, where they intercepted a black Mercedes Benz with the registration number KTU 747 HF, which was carrying the suspects: Aliyu Abbas, 35, from Funtua, Katsina State; Jibrin Idris, 35, from Gwiwa, Jigawa; Musa Ya’u from Daura, Katsina State; and Abubakar Yahaya, 45, also from Daura,” he stated.



During questioning, the suspects admitted to their involvement in fraudulent activities, and a total of one million, two hundred thousand Naira was recovered from them. Other items seized included a stack of cut-to-size papers, liquid chemicals allegedly used for producing counterfeit notes, a handcuff, and two mobile phones.Abiodun revealed that several victims had come forward to identify the suspects as members of a syndicate that had previously swindled them of both money and cattle in various markets.
