Police have released an update after a man in his 80s was arrested yesterday (Thursday, April 24) following an alleged firearm incident on the Isle of Wight. As previously reported by the County Press , Hampshire and IW Constabulary arrived at the coastal hamlet of Luccombe at 12.25pm.
The force had been alerted to reports of a man in possession of what has been described as a ‘firearm’ near a footpath in the village. Multiple police teams were sent to the scene, including a police helicopter and armed officers from Portsmouth. 30pm, an elderly man was put in the back of a police van and taken to Newport Police Station. In an update, a police spokesperson confirmed an 84-year-old man from Shanklin had been arrested. The pensioner was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.
