Gurgaon: Industries and commerce minister Rao Narbir Singh sought a status report on 41 micro STPs operated by MCG and asked the pollution control board to inspect all STPs within 15 days. During a high-level review meeting with MCG and GMDA, Rao Narbir discussed strategies for tackling waterlogging during the monsoon. Industrial units also have their own STPs, with treated water used for horticulture and urban planning.
MCG commissioner, Ashok Kumar Garg, informed that 28 out of 41 micro STPs in the municipal area are functioning smoothly. Besides, the industrial units also have their respective sewage treatment plants. The treated water obtained from these STPs is used for horticulture purposes, urban planning, etc.
"I have directed the officials to ensure the cleaning of small sewer networks alongside the drainage system. It has also come to notice that drinking water is being used for park maintenance in various sectors and residential areas," said the Minister in the meeting. He also said that tackling waterlogging in Gurgaon requires collaboration among all stakeholders.
He stressed fixing accountability for critical locations identified by MCG and GMDA to ensure swift action against negligence. He also called for better coordination between departments to address incompatible drain inlets. GMDA officials said that desilting work is underway on a 12-km stretch of stormwater drains and will be completed by June 30.
Cleaning work on Leg 2 of the Badshahpur drain has been assigned. Additionally, 85 km of sewer lines have been cleaned, with 11 km more underway, set to finish on schedule. The tender process for cleaning 404 rainwater harvesting systems is ongoing, with completion targeted by June 10.
