THOUSANDS are expected to gather in St Helier this summer as Channel Islands Pride returns to Jersey. This year’s event takes place on Saturday 21 June at the People’s Park, falling on the summer solstice and in the middle of International Pride Month. The free event will feature a parade through St Helier at 1pm, followed by live music, food, entertainment and community stalls in the park.
Organisers have confirmed that this year’s theme – “Louder, Prouder, Stronger” – is both a celebration of the progress made over the past decade and a reminder of the ongoing need for visibility and solidarity. Pride director Christian May said: “When we held the very first Channel Islands Pride in 2015, we had no idea just how much it would grow in a decade, both here in Jersey and in Guernsey. “What began as a small but determined march has become a vibrant, inclusive celebration that brings together thousands of people from across our Islands and beyond.
“As we mark ten years of Pride, it’s a moment to reflect on the progress we’ve made – not just in visibility, but in building a stronger, more united LGBTQ+ community here in the Channel Islands. “But it’s also a moment to acknowledge the challenges we continue to face, both locally and globally.” The event, which is being supported by the government, alternates each year between the Islands and is hosted by LGBTQ+ charity Liberate Jersey or Liberate Guernsey, depending on the location.
