And today, it is his seventh birthday! His title at birth was His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge, which changed to Prince Louis of Wales after his parents became the Prince and Princess of Wales in 2022, following Queen Elizabeth II's passing. He is William and Kate Middleton' s third child – following his older siblings, Prince George of Wales and Princess Charlotte of Wales.

As the youngest member of the Wales family, Prince Louis has become known for his adorable antics during royal events. One of these stand-out moments occurred during Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee Parade in 2022. Prince Louis stole the spotlight with his expressive reactions and playful demeanour, which endeared him to the public.

He's also made royal fans giggle while appearing at prestigious events like Trooping the Colour and church services. But this doesn't overshadow his importance. Prince Louis is currently fourth in line to the British throne, after his grandfather (King Charles III), his father (Prince William), and his elder siblings.

So how did Prince Louis get his name? A TikTok user exlpained that Louis is named after Lord Louis Mountbatten - the maternal uncle of the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and second cousin of King George VI, who was born at the dawn of the 20th century. Lord Mountbatten tragically lost his life in an IRA attack in Mullaghmore, County Sligo, Ireland in 1979 when a bomb was planted on his fishing boat. Royal historian Robert Lacey previously told People: "It shows the romance of this name associated with the hero and family mentor whom William never met - his father's 'honorary grandfather'.

" Lord Mountbatten played a significant role in the life of King Charles III, often present during his childhood, although he passed away five years prior to Prince William's birth. His middle name – Arthur – is also shared by his father (Prince William Arthur Philip Louis), grandfather (King Charles Philip Arthur George), and great-grandfather (Albert Frederick Arthur George - King George VI). While the royals have never confirmed it, many believe that the name Arthur is a tribute to the legendary medieval King Arthur.

The tradition of passing royal names down through history is nothing new – and commentators love the sweet tradition. One TikTok user gushed: "I find it cute how all the children has Charles in their name or someone linked to their family." Meanwhile, another said: "Oh, I love it! I'm surprised they went with Louis because it's already one of Prince George's middle names, but I think it's much nicer than Albert/Arthur/Alfred which seemed to be the top guesses.

" What are Prince Louis' nicknames? While at school and in order to keep a low profile, the royal children actually don't use their official titles like 'Prince' or 'Princess'. Instead, they have adopted their parent's title as a surname. Now that Louis has started his education in September, he can follow in the footsteps of his siblings and, as a child of the Prince and Princess of Wales, he would be referred to as Louis Wales.

Adorably, Prince Louis also has some nicknames. According to Life & Style magazine, Prince George and Princess Charlotte have been calling him ‘Lou Lou’ since he was little. However, Louis' siblings have also earned themselves nicknames.

Friends of George at school have reportedly called the Prince both 'PG' and 'Tips', based on the popular tea brand PG Tips and his Prince George initials. The name has been such a hit that William and Kate have both adopted the nickname for him at home too. Charlotte meanwhile has reportedly come to be known as Lottie by her classmates at St Thomas' School Battersea.

This is also what mum Kate calls her at home. Story Saved You can find this story in My Bookmarks. Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.
