The long queue of vehicles prompted the reopening of the closed lane. Commuters on Tuesday said they were anticipating chaos again if the PMC decided to go ahead with the repairs. Rajesh Mehendale, a regular commuter, said, "After Monday's chaotic situation, I started my travel 15 minutes early on Tuesday.

Thankfully I did not face a major congestion." According to the PMC, the work of repairs and replacement of expansion joints have been proposed at the bridge. A detailed study of all key bridges was conducted last year, which recommended various works.

Similar work has been under way at Sangam Bridge and SM Joshi Bridge. Regular commuters said the civic administration should consider the adverse impact of the closure of the bridge on the traffic flow. "The repairs at the bridge can be planned after some days as people are already facing a lot of hurdles because of pending works on the flyover at Sinhagad Road.

Work should not begin before the opening of the Sinhagad Road flyover," a resident of the area and daily commuter said. Inauguration of Sinhagad Road flyover on May 1 Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar is expected to open the Rajaram Bridge to Wadgaon Budruk flyover for vehicles on May 1. Sources from the PMC said Pawar will inaugurate the flyover around 7am as he is scheduled to attend a function on the occasion of Maharashtra Day at the Shivajinagar police grounds at 8 am.

Sources also said that the local unit of the BJP wanted CM Devendra Fadnavis to inaugurate the facility. Political parties, including the NCP, NCP (SP) and MNS have expressed displeasure at the delay in opening the facility for commuters, claiming that there is no need to wait for political leaders to open every infrastructure project in the city..
