The victim succumbed to his injuries after being taken to a hospital by locals. We have registered a case under BNS Section 105 (causing death by negligence) against the suspect," senior police inspector Nitin Fatangare of the Ravet police told TOI.
The victim's father, a farmer from Baramati, lodged a police complaint on Monday. Fatangare said the victim and the suspect are from the Bhosari area, where they ran an eatery together. They had some differences over sharing the profits, police said.
On April 2, the duo and two of their friends went to Nigdi for work. "In the early hours of April 3, they all went near the Akurdi-Dehu Road railway tracks at Mhaske Vasti in Ravet. The duo were arguing about their eatery as well as a female friend of the victim," Fatangare added.
After their two friends left, the victim and the 25-year-old were walking near the railway tracks when the latter threatened to end his life. The victim tried to persuade him to get away from the tracks after noticing a train. "When the train reached near them, the suspect moved away from the tracks.
But before the victim could get away, he was hit by the train," the officer said. Initially, a case of accidental death was registered by the railway police and sent to the Ravet police for further probe. "Investigation revealed that the victim's friend did not take him to the hospital after the accident.
He even gave false information about the incident to the victim's parents," Fatangare added..
