Vadodara: Members of the Qasam Ala gang lodged in Vadodara Central Jail have been split up and sent to different jails in Gujarat. The Vadodara special GujCTOC judge issued an order on Tuesday to transfer all nine members of the gang to different jails. The govt decided to separate the alleged gang members , fearing that they could plot some crime if kept in the same jail.
They were booked under the Gujarat Control of Terrorism and Organized Crime Act (GujCTOC) by police in Jan. "There was a concern that the gang members would meet inside the jail and plan other crimes. They are hardcore criminals and pose a danger to the lives of other prisoners.
It was decided to transfer all nine to different jails. An application was moved in court," said Raghuvir Pandya, the special public prosecutor, GujCTOC. Pandya also argued that if kept in the same jail, there was a risk of a gang war breaking out.
The gang members opposed the move. Their advocate argued that if they were transferred to other jails, their family members wouldn't be able to meet them. "They will be able to communicate with their families by video call facilities that will be made available to them," Pandya added.
The court accepted the govt's application and said that it deemed it fit to allow the application considering the gravity of the offence registered against the accused and to safeguard the other prisoners. According to the court order, Hussain Kadarmiya Sunni has been moved to a prison in Junagadh, Akbar Sunni to Bhuj, Shahid Shaik to Jamnagar, Vasimkhan Pathan to Rajkot, Sikandar Sunni to Porbandar, Hassan Sunni to Mehsana, Mohammed Ali Pathan to Junagadh, Sufiyan Pathan to Surat and Gani Sheikh to Kutch. The gang members have more than 164 offences lodged against them, including attempted murder, rioting, extortion and intimidation, in various cities across the state.
