Not every team employs an assistant general manager, but considering John Spytek's background as one at his previous stop, it seemed logical he would want one with the Las Vegas Raiders.Former assistant general manager Champ Kelly stuck around for a while, but he couldn't survive a third regime change and is now working in the Miami Dolphins front office. Now that the NFL Draft is over, the Raiders have finally found Kelly's replacement.
Las Vegas announced on Wednesday that they have hired former Denver Broncos director of college scouting Brian Stark as their new assistant general manager under Spytek.Las Vegas Raiders GM John Spytek.Kirby Lee-Imagn ImagesStark spent the last 13 seasons with the Broncos and overlapped with Spytek from 2013 to 2015.
Clearly, they were able to maintain a relationship over the years.Stark will be a key figure for the Raiders going forward as Spytek's right-hand man. He also has a bit of a coaching background, as he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Yale University from 2009 to 2011.
Interestingly enough, Kelly was also in the Broncos' front office with Spytek and Stark for some of their tenure.That wasn't the only front office move that the Raiders announced. They are also hiring Johnathon Stigall as assistant director of college scouting.
Stigall had spent the last 11 seasons with the New York Jets. He has also been a scout for the Philadelphia Eagles, Dolphins and Chicago Bears.It's clear that Spytek is favoring people with scouting backgrounds in his front office, which makes sense considering he is a former scout.
