1 2 3 Pune: Responding to growing local opposition, Baramati MP Supriya Sule has committed to reviewing the future of the Dhayari garbage depot . After residents held an agitation demanding its removal due to health and nuisance concerns, particularly following a recent fire, Sule visited the area to discuss the issues being faced by the locals. "A meeting with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will be organised to discuss the relocation of the garbage processing unit and the completion of an unfinished DP road," Sule said.

The residents have warned of intensifying their protest if the civic body fails to act on their demands. The PMC's garbage unit has the capacity to handle 50 tonnes of mixed waste per day. "The plant is located within the residential locality.

Hence, it is causing problems to the residents. It is polluting the local areas," Shreerang Chavan, a resident of Dhayari, said. According to the locals, a fire incident was reported at the unit recently.

Though no one was injured in the mishap, it is not safe to have a processing unit near homes and residential buildings. Citizens are also facing issues like polluted water. Kakasaheb Chavan, a resident of the area, said the development plan (DP) road at Dhayari was proposed over two decades ago, but it has not been built yet.

"The half-built road is leading to accidents and citizens have lost their lives. The land where the road is to be built belongs to the farmers and they are ready to give their land. The PMC must go the extra mile to get this land.

The complex rules for land measurement should be relaxed for fast acquisition of the land for this road," he said..
