Several homeowners are putting up signs in their driveways to try and lure drivers into parking close to the Lambeau Field for a fee. Signs around the stadium range from $80 to $200, as some homeowners sit on their front lawns directing drivers into their parkway. “Green Bay residents are charging tourists big money to park at their houses for the NFL Draft,” the tweet read.
Not only are residents offering up their driveways, but some are also letting drivers use their bathrooms as a pit stop. Last year, the 2024 NFL Draft marked a new attendance record after more than 700,000 fans flooded downtown Detroit for the three-day event.The NFL draft is a massive annual event where NFL teams select newly eligible college football players to join their rosters.
The three-day event is held in a different city each year, with this year’s draft being held in Green Bay, Wisconsin, from April 24-26. The first round starts on Thursday, April 24, at 8 p.m.
Rounds 2 and 3 are on Friday, April 25, at 7 p.m., and Rounds 4-7 are on Saturday, April 26, at noon.
Ahead of this year’s draft, residents near the Packers’ stadium are opening up their driveways and homes to the expected masses. The Lambeau Field Parking website mentions that among the several parking facilities are eager locals looking to make some extra cash. “Numerous private property owners in the surrounding area offer parking at varying prices,” the website reads.
Drivers who aren’t willing to relinquish their vehicles are urged to reserve a spot for individual games, which are available for pre-purchase before the games. While parking in someone else’s driveway might seem like an odd practice, several residents confirm that it is a regular phenomenon during game season. On a Reddit thread, game-day attendees were advised to pre-game with homeowners renting out their driveways. “Street parking in the neighborhood south of the stadium is free if you can find a spot,” they wrote.
“Otherwise pay to park in someone’s yard and have a drink with them!” It appears to be a win-win scenario as drivers find parking close to Lambeau Field without having to reserve a parking spot, and Green Bay residents make some pocket money too..
