It might look like street celebrations for a royal wedding or coronation but this photo merely shows one Bolton street getting into the carnival spirit. Carnival celebrations, Craddock Street, Bolton, 1938 (Picture: Newsquest) Taken in 1938, it shows how the residents Craddock Street went to town in preparation for the Bolton Carnival which was being held to raise funds for the Royal Infirmary. Bunting and banners were stretched across the street and garlands and decorations were put up on every house in what was a fantastic effort by local residents.

Somehow the photographer appears to have persuaded a number of residents to pose for a photo, either that or they were just curious about what he was up to!.
