Pune: Police on Sunday registered a case of causing death by negligence against seven people, including the owner and employees of a water park resort in Bhor taluka, where a 28-year-old woman died after she fell from a 30 feet high zip line launch tower on Friday (April 18). Senior inspector Rajesh Gawali of Rajgad police said a preliminary investigation revealed that the resort owner, operator, and management staff failed to ensure adequate safety measures for their customers at the adventure sports facility. "An FIR has been registered against them under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 125 (act endangering life and personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita," Gawali told TOI.

The woman, Narhe rsident Taral Atpalkar , and her family members went to the water park at Varge village, about 30km from the city, on Friday morning. The family spent the entire day at the resort, playing different games and having lunch there. "Zip line was the last activity of the day," assistant police inspector Tukaram Rathod of Rajgad police said.

Zip line is an activity where participants glide or walk along a cable above the ground, using a harness or pulley. Around 6pm on Friday, Atpalkar was preparing for the ride. As the harness was not of sufficient height, she stood on an iron stool.

However, she lost her balance and fell. "She sustained severe head injuries and was taken to a private hospital, where she was pronounced dead by doctors," Rathod said. The officer said that investigations found there was a safety net on one side of the zip line activity.

"However, there was no safety net on the other side, where Atpalkar fell. If there had been a safety net, the woman would have survived," he said. Inspector Gawali said Atpalkar, who completed her aeronautics engineering course from a Pune-based aviation institution, was working with an IT company in Balewadi.

She is survived by her mother, Gawali said, adding, "Atpalkar's uncle Nandkishor Atpalkar lodged a complaint." Further investigations are under way. "At present, the water park is shut to the public," Gawali said.
