Restaurant review: Belfast eatery is a cool and relaxed place, and the food is fabulous

I had wanted to try the new Jumon in the shipping containers vacated by the much loved and missed Freight, but they were fitting a new bar in last week and were closed for a few days. This posed a problem as my younger vegetarian daughter was coming home from Leeds and I had wanted to take her with me to get her view. So we went to the original instead.

This Jumon has operated at its Fountain Street location longer than anyone else who tried this site. This spot requires nurturing, devotion and luck — it can’t have been easy for owner Niall Davis in the years after the Primark fire which resulted in the creation of a no-go zone in the heart of the city, a few metres away from Jumon’s front door..
