Aiken Towne Park is getting another business. Preparations are underway for a Huey Magoo’s Chicken Tenders to open there. “It’s in the planning and development stages,” said Denise Lawrence of KANECO Construction in Atlantic Beach, Florida, during a telephone interview April 25.
“We are currently bidding the [build-out] project for the dollar amount as well as performing permitting services to get it into plan review.” Aiken Towne Park’s Huey Magoo’s will be part of the fast-casual restaurant franchise chain that Matt Armstrong and Thad Hudgens founded in 2004. According to hueymagoos.
com , the eateries offer “the best 3% of the chicken, which is the tenderloin and The Filet Mignon of Chicken.” There are more than 70 Huey Magoo’s locations. Their chicken tenders are served grilled, hand-breaded or sauced.
Other options on their menus include sandwiches, wraps and salads. Southeastern Development Associates of Augusta is spearheading the creation of Aiken Towne Park, which involves the redevelopment of the Aiken Mall. A Belk department store remained on the site after much of the Aiken Mall was demolished.
The businesses in the new buildings that have been constructed are Chicken Salad Chick, Eyemart Express and Tropical Smoothie. The Aiken Standard reported previously that a Melty restaurant also would open in Aiken Towne Park, but that hasn’t happened and a Southeastern Development Associates executive declined to comment when asked about its status. Aiken Towne Park is on the Southside in the Whiskey Road/East Gate Drive area.
