The ship was assigned to Falmouth for a Future In-Service Support MOD contract in 2018. Argus has completed a comprehensive overhaul at APCL Falmouth, which included significant upgrades and alterations to her aircraft lift, as well as the upgrade, overhaul and the replacement of several onboard systems. This period marks a crucial phase in ensuring the continued service of RFA Argus ahead of her programmed Ship Life Extension, due to commence later this year.
Mike Spicer, managing director of A&P Falmouth, said: "RFA Argus is no stranger to Falmouth, and we are immensely proud to have been working so closely with her ship's company, sub-contractors, and partners in DE&S to ensure this vital capability is ready and available for her future taskings. "We wish RFA Argus and her crew all the best on her next deployment." The Royal Navy's flagship, the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales, lead ship in the UK Carrier Strike Group (CSG), will leave Portsmouth on April 22.
The CSG will meet off the coast of Cornwall next week to embark aircraft, before sailing to the Mediterranean to take part in a NATO exercise Neptune Strike 25-1. All told, 4,000 personnel will take part in the deployment. The MoD says "up to" 24 F-35Bs aircraft will be embarked on the carrier.
