RG Kar Rape-Murder Case: The father of trainee doctor, who was brutally raped and murdered at Kolkata's government-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, claimed that her mobile number was used after her death. The doctor's father claimed that her mobile phone, which is reportedly in CBI's custody, was accessed to leave a common WhatsApp group. "My daughter's friends visited me two days ago and showed that somebody has accessed her phone to leave their common WhatsApp group," the father told ANI.

On January 20, 2025, a Sealdah court held him guilty and awarded him life imprisonment till death.

Roy was declared guilty of sexually assaulting the doctor and throttling her to death, and was convicted under Sections 64, 66 and 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)..
