A road will stay closed all month as emergency works to an "ageing" and "leaking" gas pipeline continue. Bradley Lane in Bradley Fold will remain closed between Wilby Avenue and Burghley Drive until Thursday, April 30 as repairs to a gas pipeline dating back to the 1950s carry on. The pipes have shown signs of age with leaks identified, and emergency works began on Monday, March 31.

Cadent, which manages the area's gas network, is set to replace them with a new 1km length of gas pipe. Two-way temporary traffic lights have been set up at the junction of Bradley Lane and Duxbury Avenue as repairs go on. Chris Campbell, customer operations area manager (North West) at Cadent, said: “We are responsible for keeping the gas flowing through our network 24/7, 365 days a year and although inconvenient, this work is important to keep residents warm and connected.

“We hope the residents impacted by our traffic management measures understand that this work is necessary, and our priority is to keep them safe.” Cadent will be working on Bradley Lane and Radcliffe Moor Road in Bolton throughout the month to fix issues with gas pipes sitting below both roads. The pipeline has been secured as works takes place.

Cadent has stated the replacement is meant to keep residents warm for decades to come, and stop recurring roadworks due to repairs and maintenance. Last year, the gas company announced an £80m investment to modernise around 420,000 metres of its North West pipeline in 2024-25. This would include 19,492 metres of pipe in Bolton.
