People spend two days a year discussing what to have for dinner, with roast dinners being the favourite. A survey of 2,000 adults revealed that 70 per cent of people talk about their evening meal daily for an average of eight minutes. This amounts to 48 hours a year dedicated solely to dinner discussions.

In Wales, 27 per cent of people voted roast dinners as their favourite meal. Nationally, the meal also came out on top ahead of spaghetti bolognese and fish and chips. According to the survey, 62 per cent of participants identified as 'food lovers'.

Home-cooked meals bring joy to 85 per cent of people, with 79 per cent enjoying sharing meals with loved ones. The survey found that the average dinner time for the UK is 6.28pm, and for 63 per cent of people, taste is the primary factor when deciding what to eat.

Joanne Creese, a Slimming World consultant in Ystrad Mynach, said: "There's nothing quite like sharing a meal with friends or family, and for many of us, life just wouldn't be the same without it. "Sitting down to eat with others brings us pleasure and creates connections and builds relationships – that’s why food is at the centre of so many big events in our lives." Despite the availability of more weight loss drugs, 69 per cent of adults surveyed by OnePoll.

com said they would be unlikely to take them. Of these, 25 per cent said they did not want to change the way they eat, drink, and socialise, 21 per cent were concerned about not getting the necessary nutrition, and 20 per cent said they loved their food too much. A separate survey of Slimming World's 13,000 community weight loss groups found that 89 per cent of members loved losing weight while still getting all the nutrients they need.

More than three-quarters (77 per cent) of members said they now make healthy, nutritious, filling meals that the whole family enjoys, and 76 per cent feel proud that they’re passing on healthy habits to their families. More than half (56 per cent) reported being surprised at how quickly they’ve lost weight since joining Slimming World. Slimming World, founded by Margaret Miles-Bramwell OBE in Derbyshire in 1969, is the UK and Ireland’s leading weight loss organisation.

Each week, more people choose to attend a Slimming World group than any other weight loss programme. Joanne Creese said: "Whatever way someone chooses to lose weight, we’d always encourage them to get support to make lasting changes. "They’d never be judged at Slimming World if they joined us to get that support.
