S. President Donald Trump.The premier responded to the federal election Tuesday saying, despite the collapse of the federal NDP, he hopes the parties can present a united front against Trump’s tariff and annexation threats.

“It was a tough night for our federal cousins, no doubt about it,” said Eby. “What I’m hearing from British Columbians is they are all-in for Canada. They want us to stand up to Donald Trump, they want us to strengthen their economy and protect their jobs, expand the opportunities for good-paying jobs, to ensure they are able to afford the basics, including housing, and that we have strong public services.

“And I’m keen to work with Prime Minister Carney to deliver that in partnership with the federal government.”Watch the report below:Loading the player..

C. Conservative leader John Rustad said he nonetheless was impressed by the federal party’s performance.“It is the largest percentage vote that the Conservative Party of Canada has received in almost 40 years, so it was significant in terms of that,” said Rustad.

“When you look at British Columbia and some of the results here, very close races in so many ridings, as well of course is the breakthrough. “Part of this as well is we need to recognize we have never seen a worse result for the NDP in Canadian history.”Eby said whomever leads the federal NDP next will need to take the party back to the grassroots to listen to members on how to rebuild and reconnect with its base.
