February 7, 1956 - April 16, 2025 Robert J. Hughes, 69, passed away on April 16, 2025, in Long Grove, Iowa. Born on February 7, 1956, Robert grew up in Iowa and attended Lyons Junior High before graduating from Clinton High School in 1974.
He went on to build a successful career as an Electrical Field Engineer with Bechtel Engineering, where his dedication and work ethic were well respected. Robert was known for his humble and caring nature. He found joy in connecting with others and was a familiar face at local car shows, where he proudly showcased his passion for detailing vehicles.
A talented guitarist and music enthusiast, he often shared his love of music with friends and loved ones. Whether spending time with those close to him or engaging with the community, Robert brought warmth and positivity wherever he went. He is remembered by his son Ben Smith; brothers Edward Hughes and David Hughes; nephews David J.
Hughes and Tyler Hughes; and his girlfriend Marlee Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Myrna Hughes. A celebration of Robert's life was held on April 18, 2025, at Long Grove Community Center in Long Grove, Iowa.
