That's win No. 5 in Game No. 30 now for the surging Rockies.

Analysts, media members and fans all expected the Colorado Rockies to be one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball this season. Entering 2025, the Rockies sit in a tie for the fewest wins in the sport since 2020. Their 288 victories marked the exact same total as the Washington Nationals.

The Rockies began this season with a plan to begin to learn more heavily on youth. Centerfielder Brenton Doyle was an All-Star last year. Ezequiel Tovar is considered one of the better shortstops in the National League.

Starting pitcher Chase Dollander, the No. 26 prospect in baseball, was called up early in the season, too.It hasn't done Colorado much good.

The purple-and-black entered Wednesday's game against the Atlanta Braves with the worst record in MLB at just 4-25. They'd lost 16 of their last 17 games. A 17th loss in 18 tries, to the Braves, would have placed the Rockies alongside the 1988 Baltimore Orioles as the only two teams to start a season 4-26 since 1901.

Dollander allowed one run on two hits and three walks over his 5 2/3 innings. Jake Bird, in his fourth MLB season, combined with rookies Seth Halvorson and Zach Agnos in limiting the Braves to just one more hit the rest of the way.Next hurdle? Two in a row.
