By MARK REY MONTEJO La Salle was struggling against Adamson and head coach Ramil De Jesus was naturally looking for ways to inject more life to his team. Angel Canino and Shevana Laput were doing just enough to lead the Green Archers but they seemingly needed an extra push to get over the hump. Then entered rookie Shane Reterta.
With the pressure mounting as Adamson continued to challenge them, Reterta rose to the occasion, coming through with crucial plays to steady the ship on the way to a thrilling 25-19, 21-25, 22-25, 25-18, 15-4 victory. “Breath of fresh air, really, like when she came in we just knew that she’s got our back and this generation coming about, Shane is one of those players who are coming in from this new generation,” Laput said of Reterta. “It’s just showing that whether you’re a rookie, same with Shaina (Nitura), or you’re an ate, everyone can step up and anyone can be a game-change,” she added Canino also heaped praises to Reterta who delivered despite the immense pressure to help La Salle overcome another splendid performance from Nitura.
“Syempre sobrang thankful din, kasi kahit senior, isa kami sa mga leaders sa loob, nakita korin kay Shane ‘yong tapang sa loob, wala akong nakitang takot, pagpasok nya ngiti lang sya,” said Canino. “Kapag nagra-rattle na kami we have to remind ourselves na ngumiti lang at gumalaw, at si Shane ‘yong nagbigay samin ng crucial points and nakita namin na gusto nyang dalhin ‘tong team sa panalo, which is nagawa nya,” she added. Reterta was a spark off the bench listing nine points, off seven attacks, a block and an ace along with three excellent digs and receptions.
“Kailangan ko po muna i-handle ‘yong pressure sa sarili ko, and then hangga’t makakaya kopo, at hangga’t ano po mailalabas ko para sa team gagawin ko,” said Reterta..
