Rory McIlroy saw the funny side of Shane Lowry's mishap at the Zurich Classic.

Rory McIlroy was left in hysterics by Shane Lowry’s topped shot at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Lowry completely scuffed his attempt off the tee and could only laugh at his own mishap. The Irishman’s shot skidded off the grass before he turned to grumble at playing partner McIlroy.

The Masters champion was laughing so hard that he was hunched over. The crowd also saw the funny side of the mistake, clapping and cheering for Lowry. The golfer took the moment in good spirits, laughing and quipping: “Oh, f****** hell, I’m so nice to my Pro-Am partners!” As another ball was lined up on the tee, he continued: “Jesus Christ, I’m not sure I want to hit this!” Lowry then revealed that he had joked to McIlroy’s caddie, Harry Diamond, about potentially topping his first shot.

“I just said that to Harry as well,” Lowry told McIlroy as the Northern Irishman said something that was inaudible. He subsequently struck a much better drive to get his round off to a better start, before repeating to McIlroy: “I just said that to Harry..

.” McIlroy interjected: “Yeah, he just said to me, Shane just said, ‘imagine if I top this!’” It was an amusing start to the round after a big week for the duo. While McIlroy went on to win the Masters , Lowry had also been in contention up until the final round and was briefly placed in the top two during Saturday’s leaderboard.

com/4cXa7tL9eN There was plenty of media attention on the pair ahead of their first appearance since the Masters, defending their Zurich Classic title from last year. Lowry revealed that he had joked to his caddie, Darren Reynolds, during the final round that they might struggle to persuade McIlroy to play in Louisiana less than two weeks later. He said: “I said to my caddie on the 15th hole at Augusta.

..obviously, I was done.

I was just watching the leaderboard. I think [Rory] had just made double [bogey] on 13. I turned to Darren and just said, ‘No matter what happens the next few holes, I think we're gonna do well to get him to New Orleans!’ “If things didn't go his way, I don't think he'd wanna be here! I thought, if things did go his way, he might be somewhere else.

But I'm happy he's here!”.
