From April 18 to 21, when the advance polls were open, roughly 14 per cent of the population of Brandon-Souris came out to vote.

That is based on data from Statistics Canada in 2021 that put the population of the area at about 89,812. Riding Mountain saw nearly as many advance ballots cast. Preliminary counts by Elections Canada found that roughly 12,019 people turned up in Riding Mountain for advance voting this year.

The number of people across the country who voted in advance polls grew by 25 per cent over the last election in 2021, Elections Canada said this week. An estimated 7.3 million people voted in advance polls across Canada, compared to 5.

8 million in the previous federal election. Across the province, the four days of advanced voting saw roughly 229,379 people. Election day is Monday, April 28.
