Five Denton-area softball teams got their playoff runs underway Thursday with the first games of their respective best-of-three series. Guyer 9, Plano West 4; Guyer 7, Plano West 2 The Lady Wildcats swept Friday's playoff doubleheader against Plano West to take the teams' bi-district round series. Guyer (27-3) scored seven runs in the bottom of the second inning to pull ahead in the first game and never trailed again from that point on in either game. Notre Dame commit Finley Montgomery and Sterling College signee Mackie Ambriz combined to get the job done in the circle as Montgomery spun eight of the innings and Ambriz handled the other six with the two splitting time in both games.
Montgomery was also 2 for 3 with two RBIs in Game 1, while Madison Joyner added a double, two RBIs and one run scored alongside a triple, two RBIs and one run scored from Emma Richard. Cali Parham also tripled and scored twice as Annaleeia Martinez added two RBIs and a run scored. Chloe O'Brien had a double, a triple, one RBI and two runs scored to lead the way in Game 2, while Richard added a double and two RBIs.
Creighton signee Aubriella Martinez was 2 for 4 with a double, an RBI and one run scored alongside one RBI apiece from Parham and UT-Dallas signee Megan DeWitt. Guyer advances to face Richardson Pearce (14-12-1) in the area round of the playoffs next week with details to be announced. White Settlement Brewer 4, Argyle 2 The Lady Eagles dropped Friday's game against Brewer to even the teams' bi-district round series at one win apiece.
Argyle (16-15) led 1-0 through one inning and pulled to a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the third before Brewer added two more runs in the fifth to pull ahead for good. Brooklyn Barnett went 2 for 3 with a double and one RBI for the Lady Eagles, while Centre College signee Avery Hankins added their other RBI. Emily Davis went 1 for 2 with two walks and scored both runs.
The teams wrap up the best-of-three series at 3 p.m. Saturday at Justin Northwest High.
The winner will advance to face Fort Worth South Hills (17-16-1) in the area round of the playoffs next week with details to be announced. Lake Dallas 5, Celina 3 The Lady Falcons rallied from an early deficit to best Celina in Friday's series opener at Celina High. Lake Dallas (15-8) trailed 2-0 through one inning before rallying to a 3-3 tie through three, then scoring one run apiece in the top of the fifth and sixth innings to go in front for good.
Landry Mancha had a double, one RBI and one run scored, while Illinois College signee Alisha Christensen added a double and one run scored. Hailey Garcia and Parker Prewitt had one RBI apiece, and Presley Prewitt scored two runs. McPherson University signee Zoey Christensen struck out two while allowing seven hits, no walks and no earned runs across a complete-game effort.
The teams will play Game 2 at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lake Dallas High with Game 3 to follow, if needed.

Sanger 4, Frisco Panther Creek 3 The Lady Indians completed a series sweep of Panther Creek with Friday's come-from-behind victory. Sanger (17-8-3) led 2-1 through six innings before falling behind 3-2 in the top of the seventh, then scoring two runs in the bottom half to prevail.
Sophia Troegle doubled in Lily Wilson and scored from third on an RBI single by Dalilah Millan to take the walk-off victory. Millan scored one run herself in the bottom of the first on an Abby Chapmond sacrifice groundout, the same inning that Tarryn Liechty crossed on a wild pitch to give Sanger its first lead. Daytona State signee Leala Kloewer struck out eight while allowing 10 hits, three runs and one walk across a complete-game effort.
Sanger advances to face Ferris (14-12-2) in the area round of the playoffs next week with details to be announced. Aubrey 9, Bonham 0 The Lady Chaparrals completed a series sweep of Bonham with Friday's victory. TWU signee Mya Cherry spun her second straight complete game shutout to lead the way for Aubrey (26-3), tallying 16 strikeouts with just two hits and one walk allowed.
The Lady Chaps scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and five more in the sixth to set the final margin. Molly Reid went 2 for 4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored as TWU signee Tamia Cherry added a home run, one RBI and two runs scored of her own. Ole Miss commit Abby Lynch-Buxton added a double, a triple, two RBIs and one run scored alongside a triple and one RBI by Mya Cherry.
Aubrey advances to face Hillsboro (17-10) or Dallas Lincoln (12-8-2) in the area round of the playoffs next week with details to be announced. Van Alstyne 5, Krum 0 The Lady Cats suffered a series sweep to Van Alstyne with Friday's loss. Krum finishes the season with an overall record of 22-5.
Ponder 15, Dallas Life Oak Cliff 0 (3 innings) The Lady Lions wrapped up a dominant series sweep of Life Oak Cliff with Friday's victory. Ponder (14-5) scored 13 of its runs in the bottom of the third inning to bring the run rule into effect. Vada Cochrum struck out seven while allowing just one walk, adding three runs scored offensively.
Sterling College signee Tessa Taft went 2 for 3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored, while Grayson Wells was 2 for 2 with a double and four RBIs. Skyler Medders chipped in a 2 for 3 day with three runs scored. Ponder advances to face Gunter (21-9) in the area round of the playoffs next week with details to be announced.
Argyle 4, White Settlement Brewer 1 The Lady Eagles knocked off Brewer on Thursday in Game 1 of the teams' best-of-three series. Argyle (16-14) scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning and added a pair more in the top of the sixth before Brewer put up its lone run in the bottom half. Kelsi Klein went 1 for 3 with a double and three RBIs, while Centre College signee Avery Hankins was 2 for 3 with a triple, one RBI and one run scored.
Anniston Strittmatter and Emily Davis also scored one run each. Bowling Green signee Avari Sandifer struck out nine while allowing three hits, five walks and no earned runs across a complete-game effort. Argyle aims to complete the series sweep in Game 2 at 6:30 p.
m. Friday at Justin Northwest High. Sanger 8, Frisco Panther Creek 5 The Lady Indians surged late and held on to beat Panther Creek in Game 1 of the teams' series on Thursday.
Sanger (16-8-3) trailed 1-0 through four innings before putting up two runs in the top of the fifth and three apiece in the sixth and seventh. That late surge proved enough to hold off Panther Creek's late rally as it scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Daytona State signee Leala Kloewer went 1 for 3 with a double, a walk and three RBIs at the plate while also striking out five with four hits, four walks and five earned runs allowed across a complete-game effort in the circle.
Dalilah Millan went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Abby Chapmond was 2 for 2 with three walks, an RBI and one run scored. Carley Kates added a triple, one RBI and one run scored as Lily Wilson and Sophia Troegle scored twice apiece. Sanger aims to complete the sweep in Game 2 at 6 p.
m. Friday back at Braswell High. Aubrey 12, Bonham 0 (5 innings) The Lady Chaparrals opened the playoffs with a run-rule win in Game 1 of their bi-district round series against Bonham.
TWU signee Mya Cherry led the way for Aubrey (25-3) as she struck out 13 while allowing just two hits and two walks across five innings of work. Ole Miss commit Abby Lynch-Buxton added a double, a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored, while Molly Reid went 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. TWU signee Tamia Cherry added an RBI and two runs scored, and Fort Lewis College signee Carmen Alexander had one RBI and a run scored.
Aubrey looks to complete a series sweep at 5 p.m. Friday back at McKinney North High with Game 3 to follow, if needed.
Van Alstyne 6, Krum 5 The Lady Cats saw a late rally effort come up just short in Friday's playoff-opening loss to Van Alstyne. Krum (22-4) trailed 2-0 through the top of the sixth inning before scoring four runs in the bottom half to take its first lead. Van Alstyne answered with four runs of its own in the top of the seventh to pull back in front for good as the Lady Cats scored once more in the bottom half to finish just short.
Jazmine Jackson went 1 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and one run scored, while Taylor Fauver added a double, one RBI and a run scored. Lillian Williams and Weatherford College commit Paige Bianchi also doubled once each as Williams had one RBI and Bianchi scored a run. Krum aims to rebound in Game 2 at 6:30 p.

Round 1 softball results: Sanger, Guyer, Aubrey and Ponder complete series sweeps

Sanger, Guyer, Aubrey and Ponder's softball teams all completed sweeps of their bi-district round playoff series Friday, advancing to Round 2. Lake Dallas will have two chances to move on Saturday, while Argyle faces a decisive third game.
