City have one game and they know they must win at Fratton Park to ensure safety

Ruben Selles remains determined to keep Hull City in the Championship after Saturday's disastrous defeat to Derby County. That 1-0 loss courtesy of Nat Phillips' 84th-minute header leaves City inside the bottom three with one game remaining, but victory at Portsmouth on Saturday would see the Tigers survive. Selles has urged calm amongst his dressing room, and believes having Sunday away from the training ground to spend with family and friends will help clear some of the frustration and ensure clear minds leading into the crunch visit to Fratton Park.

"It's very important that everyone keeps calm due to the circumstances," Selles told Hull Live after a deflating defeat. "I don't think we need to overdo things. I know football is about results, and this is a bad result, losing 1-0, but it doesn't take away from the fact that we did some proper things during the season together.

That will be the first thing. "The second thing is, I think people need a little bit of time away from each other, including myself. When we meet together again to prepare for the week, we will have had that space and time to think a little bit more about other things.

"Then we come back directly with the laser focus on the last game of the season, and for me to have a clear plan and tell them what we need to do to be in a good place at the end of the season. "We say that it was now or never to get the victories back-to-back. It’s now or never if we want to stay up – and we want to do it.

Let’s prepare in the week, go for it with everything we have, and I will demand everything from us.” Did you know that you can get daily Tigers news sent straight to your device as soon as it happens through WhatsApp?
