Hull City head coach Ruben Selles says it's now or never for his side to finally break their duck and win a second game in a row for the first time under his stewardship this weekend. Monday's 2-1 win over Preston North End means City will host fellow strugglers Derby County on Saturday knowing victory will secure their Championship safety in their final home game of the campaign. Two second half penalties from Joe Gelhardt saw City claim a first win in four attempts, and it proved especially crucial given Derby and Luton Town both won below them.
In the previous eight attempts since Selles took charge in December, City have failed to win two games in a row, but should they do that this weekend, they'll be assured of survival after a dismal campaign, and the Spaniard says there's no time like the present to do it. "We will need to have a good recovery day and then train as usual, prepare as we usually do and try to be the team that we want to be and have a good game on Saturday," Selles said of the days leading into the weekend. "It's a big opportunity because it's in our hands.
You play football, you're in the business for that kind of moment. "We obviously want be there for the promotions, or to play in cup finals and to become champions, but these are the big games and in our level this is a big, big game, so we play for those moments. Let's embrace it and let's go for it.
" While City could effectively be safe before kick off, of Luton Town lose their early kick-off at home to Coventry City, Selles his players must grasp the moment, and if they do, it'll be one to remember in the context of their battle to survive. "You will remember that game forever (if City win). "You will remember some of the games and sometimes it's about the game, but now the reality is that we mentioned many times that it's in our hands.
That game is truly in our hands. It's now or never." Did you know that you can get daily Tigers news sent straight to your device as soon as it happens through WhatsApp? It's quick and easy to join.
