One of the damaged sections along the road to Long Lellang.MIRI (April 24): The road leading to Long Lellang in Baram has significantly deteriorated over the years, causing hardship for villagers who rely on it as their main land connection to Miri.Local villager Beranabas Elun Idris, 28, said several sections of the road have been in poor condition for the past five years.

“I work as a transporter and frequently travel this land route from Miri to Long Lellang. Over the past five years, I’ve noticed that several sections of the road have become badly damaged and riddled with potholes, especially during the rainy season,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday. He added that although repairs have occasionally been carried out, they are often delayed, with maintenance only taking place once conditions become critical.

Recalling a past ordeal, Beranabas said he once had to walk for five hours to reach his village after his vehicle was unable to pass through a particularly damaged stretch of road.Beranabas Elun Idris“We’ve had to raise awareness about the road condition through social media, hoping the relevant authorities will take urgent action to resolve a problem that has persisted for years,” he said.He stressed that the road is a vital lifeline for rural communities, many of whom travel to Miri for medical treatment and other urgent needs.

Although Long Lellang is also served by MASwings’ rural air service, he noted that limited seat availability and flight frequency mean the road remains the primary and most accessible option for many. The post Rural lifeline in ruins: Long Lellang road conditions worsen after years of neglect appeared first on Borneo Post Online..
