Priyadarshan is reportedly preparing to team up with Saif Ali Khan for a thriller, marking their debut collaboration. Director nPriyadarshan is reuniting with Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar after 14 years for the upcoming horror-comedy Bhoot Bangla. Produced under Ektaa R.
Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms Ltd, the film’s announcement was made on Akshay’s 57th birthday. Slated for release on April 2, 2026, Bhoot Bangla is quickly becoming one of the most anticipated horror comedies of recent years. After this project, Priyadarshan is reportedly set to collaborate with Saif Ali Khan on a thriller, marking their first partnership.
According to Bollywood Hungama, Saif will portray a visually impaired character in the film, a role he confirmed with excitement, stating, “Yes, I am doing a film with Priyadarshan next. I play a blind guy. Very exciting.
" Priyadarshan, who has long admired Saif’s screen presence, expressed his enthusiasm about working with the actor, noting he was eager to create a suitable project for him. The news has led many, particularly Priyadarshan’s fans from Kerala, to speculate that the upcoming thriller could be a Hindi remake of Oppam, the 2016 Malayalam film directed by Priyadarshan and starring Mohanlal. The original film, which was partially inspired by the 2011 Korean thriller Blind and Martin Scorsese’s 1991 classic Cape Fear, is a key reference for this speculation.
Given Priyadarshan’s history of remaking his own films and others, such a possibility seems plausible. In Oppam, Mohanlal played a blind man who becomes entangled in a murder investigation and ultimately emerges as the prime suspect. Saif is expected to take on this role in the Hindi remake, adding his unique touch to the character.
There is also speculation that Bobby Deol may play the antagonist. An insider revealed that Bobby was impressed with the script, particularly its intricate, multi-layered character development, which aligns well with Saif’s role. However, Bobby’s involvement has not been officially confirmed.
In the original Oppam, Tamil actor Samuthirakani portrayed the antagonist. Interestingly, Ajay Devgn was initially rumoured to be in talks for the role originally played by Mohanlal, but it appears that he is no longer attached to the project. Meanwhile, Saif Ali Khan is also gearing up for the release of Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins, a Netflix thriller directed by Kookie Gulati and Robbie Grewal.
Produced by Siddharth Anand and Mamta Anand under the Marflix banner, Jewel Thief is set to premiere on Netflix on April 25..
