The New Orleans Saints may have just drafted their new starting quarterback, but Tyler Shough was still on the board this long for a reason.

And there it is. The New Orleans Saints stayed put at their second round pick and selected Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough, one of the more divisive prospects in this year's draft class. Shough, who turns 26 in September, spent seven years in college but experienced just one real season as a starter while dealing with a variety of injuries.

Other quarterbacks like Shedeur Sanders (Colorado) and Jalen Milroe (Alabama) were on the board, but this is who first-year head coach Kellen Moore wanted. It's a bold move. Shough doesn't have the experience other guys who have been in the game as long as he has does, and there's no guarantee that he'll win the starting job from Spencer Rattler in training camp this year, assuming it's an open competition.

But we also don't know what's going on with Derek Carr's throwing shoulder. The Saints needed another option at quarterback and now they have one. This article originally appeared on Saints Wire: Saints may have picked their new starting QB in the 2025 NFL draft.
