Sameer Nigam is an Indian entrepreneur and visionary who founded PhonePe, one of the first digital payment companies to offer a Unified Payments Interface (UPI) solution. Established in 2015, PhonePe quickly achieved market leadership by transforming digital payments in India. Prior to founding PhonePe, Sameer served as the Senior Vice President of Engineering at Flipkart and also founded Mime360, an online content delivery company that Flipkart later acquired.

Recognised as a member of Economic Times' "40 Under 40," Sameer continues to push the boundaries of innovation and strategic growth in India's fintech sector. Early Life and Education Sameer was born in Delhi and raised in Noida before moving to Mumbai and Bengaluru. His father, a former Indian Navy officer and IIT graduate, and his mother, an entrepreneur who passed the IAS exam at the age of 40, greatly influenced his values and ambition.



Sameer attended Delhi Public School in Noida and then pursued a degree in Computer Engineering at the University of Mumbai. He later earned a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Arizona and an MBA in Entrepreneurship from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. This diverse educational background provided a strong foundation for his entrepreneurial journey.

Professional Career Sameer began his professional career at Shopzilla, serving as Director of Search Product Development from 2001 to 2007. In 2009, he founded Mime360, a digital content distribution platform that connected content creators with publishers. The startup was acquired by Flipkart, where Sameer held key roles, including Vice President of Marketing and Senior Vice President of Engineering.

His corporate success and product innovation experience culminated in the launch of PhonePe in 2015, a UPI-based digital payment platform.
