Perplexity AI: I think it's time you forgot about Bixby and Gemini on your Samsung and Motorola smartphones, as we might be witnessing a potential shake-up of Android ecosystems, as AI startup Perplexity is in talks with the above-mentioned tech giants to become their default digital chat assistant, a report from Bloomberg highlights. Motorola has reportedly sealed a deal with Perplexity, and the official announcement is expected at its upcoming April 24 event, where it will also debut the next-gen foldable Razr smartphones. According to reports, the integration aims to deliver a tailored experience, potentially optimised for the foldable design.

The report from Bloomberg also highlights that the Korean tech giant Samsung is currently in the early stages of signing this deal. This is a significant development given that Samsung is in partnership with Google and its own assistant, Bixby, yet Samsung has shown interest in Perplexity, which has already backed the AI firm via its venture arm Samsung Next, and is reportedly eyeing further investment soon. These partnerships could harness a major change in the Android space and an overall user experience.

Perplexity has its own advantages, like its sleek, search engine-like interface and real-time web-integrated answers. The platform is currently available on both Android and iOS for free and also has a $20/month pro subscription that gives you advanced features. Founded in 2022, Perplexity runs on top AI models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and even Google.

It's also working on new features, including a Google-like “Circle to Search” tool for Android users. Now the question is, will these tech giants replace Google's AI entirely, or will the users get a choice to pick between their preferred mode of AI chatbot services? Well, only time will tell.
