Josh Sargent has insisted Norwich City's group remain together as he calls for the Canaries to end their Championship campaign with pride. Norwich's spiralling run of form culminated in the departure of head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup after their 3-1 defeat to Millwall, but City's squad have also been criticised for their application and lack of motivation in recent matches. Their performances over the Easter weekend prompted questions over whether they were together and concentrating on the present at Carrow Road.
Those questions were put to City's number nine, who felt it was footballing reasons rather than uncertainty or motivation that had prompted the concerning slide of form that resulted in Thorup losing his job. "I wouldn't say we're not together. I'm just trying to think of the right words here.
I wouldn't say it's individual. It's a good group of guys," Sargent told the Pink Un in the aftermath of City's defeat to Millwall, prior to Thorup's departure. "We know what we're able to do.
We have played good football at times. I think it's just learning to manage games and to win games and to do the bare minimum, whether that's set pieces or stringing simple passes together, to calm the game down for a second. "I think it's just bad decisions and bad organising sometimes from us.
All of that has just led to poor results. We, as a group, just have not been good enough, and it shows." Jack Wilshere will lead City's final two Championship matches against Middlesbrough and Cardiff.
Prior to that managerial change being made, Sargent was calling for City's squad to up their levels and reward supporters for their efforts through improved performances and results. "Because it's just, again, just not been good enough. I'm not putting that on anybody specifically, it's all of us together as a team. It's just been unacceptable from us," Sargent said.
"We see their support. We hear their frustration. We're just as frustrated.
I completely get why they're upset. These last two games, I think we really have to show something in terms of just showing that we're proud to be at this club and proud to play for this club.".
