Sault police warn of stunt driving consequences after 41-year-old charged

A 41-year-old motorist faces stunt driving charges after Sault police allegedly caught the driver speeding more than 50 km/h over the posted limit. On April 17, officers patrolling Second Line East observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. Marie Police Service said in a news release. “Officers (as a result) conducted a traffic stop.” In addition to the stunt driving charge, the accused received an automatic 30-day licence suspension and the SUV involved was towed and impounded for 14 days at the owner’s expense.



If convicted, penalties could include a fine of $2,000 to $10,000, a driver’s licence suspension of one to three years, and up to six months in jail. The driver would also face six demerit points, increased costs for high-risk insurance, and a required driver improvement course – or licence cancellation. The motorist is scheduled to appear in Provincial Offences Court at a later date.
