Eighth Saur, considered as the Afghan people’s Jihad Victory Day, is marked every year by Afghans and the government in the country. The day is considered as the history of freedom seekers and sacrifices as it was gained as a result of the martyrdom of nearly 1.5 million Afghans.

In the history of Afghanistan, Saur 7 and Saur 8 are two historic days, but Saur 7 is considered a black day in the history of our country. To mark Saur 8 this year, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) in a statement has condemned the Saur 7 coup and the subsequent Soviet invasion, while calling Saur 8 as Independence Day for the country and its people. In the statement released on the occasion of Saur 8, the Islamic Emirate has called for unity among Afghans and reaffirmed its commitment to a stable Afghanistan governed by an Islamic system.

“The Islamic Emirate condemns the coup of Saur 7 and the ensuing communist aggression against Afghanistan, hailing Saur 8 as a historic day of our nation’s independence and pride,” the statement said, noting that the Afghan people were jubilant, believing they had finally achieved the fruits of a 14-year jihad and would live peacefully under freedom and a Sharia-based government. “Unfortunately, a few power-hungry groups once again dashed the Muslim nation’s hopes, fuelling factional wars and internal strife,” the statement added. In the statement, the Islamic Emirate stressed it was established to restore Afghanistan’s independence, promote unity and harmony, eliminate anarchy, and implement a pure Islamic system.

“Now is the time to firmly safeguard our Islamic system,” the statement concluded, calling on all Afghans to remain united and committed to the stability and strengthening of their Islamic government.” On the 7th of Saur, 1357, coinciding with 27 April 1978, the People’s Democratic Party of Afghanistan overthrew the republican government of President Mohammad Daud Khan. With this, the communists took power, which faced the country with various catastrophes and misfortunes.

When widespread resistance erupted across Afghanistan against the communist leaders and puppet regime, the Soviet Union intervened and invaded our beautiful country on 6 January 1980 to bolster the communist regime. The then communist and puppet regime with the help and support of the Soviet Union’s Red Army perpetrated various crimes against the Afghan Muslim people, beliefs, and Islamic values. Thanks to Almighty Allah that our Muslim and mujahid nation stood strong against the communist ideology and declared holy jihad against the Soviet Union and its puppet regime.

After years of fierce resistance and Jihad of the Afghan people, Soviet forces withdrew on 16 February 1989. On the 8th of Saur 1371, coinciding with 28 April 1992, the mujahidin toppled the government of Najibullah and took power. However, divisions and indifferences among various parties of mujahidin, along with involvement from Najibullah’s former generals and militias, sparked prolonged civil conflict, resulting in the destruction of beautiful Kabul city.

Now that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is in power, it is the time for the Afghan people to stand beside each other, keep united and support their Islamic system. It is the time that Afghans should give hand to each other, work shoulder to shoulder and cooperate with the Islamic Emirate for the rebuilding and development and prosperity of the country.
