Saving Private Ryan could have ended up being very different, as one actor has revealed they were originally offered the lead role in the iconic war film.

The esteemed film Saving Private Ryan has cemented its status as a cinematic masterpiece and is known as a "must-watch" and an essential war movie. This landmark movie, hailed as one of the greatest war films ever produced , earned five Academy Awards, with Tom Hanks earning an Academy nod with a Best Actor nomination for his role as Captain Miller, and a young Matt Damon receiving recognition for his portrayal of Private Ryan. But the casting could have taken a different direction, as reportedly the casting team and directors were considering another actor for the pivotal role.

Actor Noah Wyle dropped a bombshell in an old interview clip that's resurfaced online, disclosing that he nearly donned the uniform of Private Ryan himself. Scheduling clashes with his part in the TV medical drama ER meant he was unable to take on the role, and instead Matt Damon starred. In the unearthed footage, Wyle shares his missed opportunity as he explained, "I was offered the part of Private Ryan in Saving Private Ryan, and couldn't get out of ER to do it.
