The Plough is still open

Scaffolding has been erected at a North Staffordshire pub - as work starts to restore its iconic mural. The mural - thought to have been painted in the early 20th century - enjoys pride of place outside The Plough, in Endon . But concerns have been raised over the state of the mural and the general condition of the pub exterior.

Now the Toby Carvery is staying open during the building works. It comes as the venue is preparing to shut for a five-week £500,000 makeover from Monday, May 19. In a social media post to customers, the Leek Road venue states: "The scaffolding is up.

We are open as usual." The mural was painted by Endon-born Herbert Foster. It is thought to be the UK's largest pub sign.
