Meets Emir Sanusi, says Kano holds key to political revivalFormer Kaduna State Governor and leading Social Democratic Party (SDP) figure, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, on Monday condemned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as crippled by godfatherism and internal dysfunction, declaring them unfit to steer Nigeria’s future.Speaking shortly after a visit to the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, at his palace in Kano, El-Rufai argued that Nigeria urgently needs “a trustworthy political alternative to save the country” and identified the SDP as the most credible platform to deliver that change.“After joining the SDP, it was important to come and engage with stakeholders here.



Kano is critical to any serious political movement because of its consistently high voter turnout,” he said.El-Rufai, one of the principal architects behind the formation of the APC in 2013, reflected on the history of coalition politics in Nigeria, but said the current objective is fundamentally different.“Twelve years ago, we merged three major parties to form the APC and succeeded in defeating an incumbent president.

But now, the mission is different. We are rallying disaffected members across political lines under an existing platform, the SDP, which we believe has the best pedigree and potential,” he explained.The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory said the two dominant parties have lost their moral authority, blaming their decline on entrenched political godfathers and internal collapse.

“We have seen how godfatherism destroyed the PDP and is now undermining the APC. Nigerians deserve a party founded on fairness, internal democracy, and equal opportunity. The SDP can be that alternative,” he declared.
