DEPARTMENT of Provincial and Local Level Government (DPLLG) Secretary Philip Leo has reassured that the department and all provincial administrations stand ready to support the roll out of the 2025 Local Level Government (LLG) elections. Present for the issue of writs occasion yesterday, Mr Leo said while the Electoral Commission will take lead to implement the 2025 LLG Elections and the Motu Koita Assembly Elections, he is keen and looking forward to working together with all stakeholder agencies. “I stand ready with my department and all the provincial administrators to support.
I am excited. This will be my first time to be part of this process and I look forward and am very happy,” Mr Leo said. Mr Leo met with all 22 provincial administrators recently and emphasised the need for them to help with the LLG elections in each province.
So far 11 provincial administrations have allocated some form of support to the PNG Electoral Commission through agreements. Most of these agreements included financial and logistics support. The writs for the 2025 LLG elections and Motu Koita Assembly elections were signed and issued yesterday.
In the 2025 LLG elections there are 374 ward seats and 6916 ward seats to be contested. Meanwhile in the Motu Koita Assembly elections, there are 17 seats to be contested..
