For Shah Rukh Khan, Mannat was once just a dream glimpsed from a distance — a dream he fulfilled against all odds. For millions of fans, Shah Rukh Khan’s residence, Mannat, isn’t just a home — it’s a symbol of dreams fulfilled. Over the past two decades, the superstar’s palatial mansion at Bandra Bandstand has become one of Mumbai’s biggest tourist attractions, drawing visitors from every corner of the country.
But few know that once upon a time, Mannat was just a distant dream for the young actor who had only begun to carve his path to superstardom. Back in 1997, while shooting Aziz Mirza’s Yes Boss, Shah Rukh filmed the popular song “Chaand Taare" right outside the property that would eventually become his prized possession. As fate would have it, during one of his strolls with wife Gauri, Shah Rukh reportedly pointed to the grand villa and promised her that one day, it would be theirs.
At that time, the house was owned by the Bai Khorshed Bhanu Sanjana Trust. Recalling those days, director Aziz Mirza shared in an interview with Radio Nasha, “Shah Rukh was staying at my house, Devdoot, which was very close to Mannat. He and Gauri were young then, full of dreams.
I remember they used to go on walks, and I’m sure during one such stroll, he must have promised her that he would buy that house someday. Life was good to him, and he was fortunate enough to make that dream come true." Aziz further added, “I clearly remember, once while shooting near Cafe Seaside, he pointed towards Mannat and told me, ‘Aziz, I’ve bought that house.
’ Of course, there were many challenges — legal formalities with the municipality and issues with the neighboring properties — but eventually, he overcame them all." Interestingly, after purchasing the house, Shah Rukh and Gauri initially named it Jannat (meaning “Paradise"). However, in 2005, they renamed it Mannat — a word that perfectly encapsulates the story behind it: a heartfelt wish that destiny turned into reality.
Today, Mannat is estimated to be worth over ₹200 crore. Recently, the Khan family temporarily vacated the house to accommodate major renovations. They have relocated to a luxury apartment complex in Bandra, leasing two duplex apartments from producer Vashu Bhagnani.
The apartments come with a hefty rent of ₹24 lakh per month, totaling ₹2.9 crore annually across four floors..
