Shanley baseball walks-off Mustangs; North jolts Grand Forks Central

Quinn Miller's walk-off single helped Fargo Shanley earn an Eastern Dakota Conference victory over West Fargo Sheyenne.

FARGO — Fargo Shanley third-baseman Quinn Miller was the hero in the Deacons’ 5-4 victory over the West Fargo Sheyenne Mustangs in an Eastern Dakota Conference game on Wednesday evening at Jack Williams Stadium. Miller walked off the Mustangs in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run single up the middle that scored Adam Leininger and Jordan Leininger. The bases were loaded after a trio of walks.

The Deacons nearly closed out the game in the top of the frame. Trailing 3-1, Sheyenne loaded the bases with two outs and Landon Zink barrelled up a three-run double to right field. Shanley starter Boden Meier worked six innings, allowing one earned run on three hits with 11 strikeouts.



Adam Leininger ended 2 for 2 with two walks. Greg Noel and Tommy Simon each had RBI singles. Sheyenne’s Caleb Duerr granted two earned runs on five hits and struck out nine batters.

Duerr was 2 for 3 at the plate with a triple and a walk. Tate Hermann had two walks and Parker Henrich doubled. Shanley improved to 8-0 in the EDC and 12-4 overall.

The Deacons face off against the Moorhead Spuds on 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 9 at Jack Williams.

The Mustangs fell to 4-2 in the EDC and 10-7 overall. Sheyenne hosts Grand Forks Red River at 5 p.m.
