Popular NFL legend and podcast host Shannon Sharpe has been hit with serious accusations. As per reports, a woman has filed a lawsuit in the US state of Nevada, saying that Sharpe used his fame to “manipulate, control, subjugate and violate women.” She claimed that during their relationship, which lasted almost two years, Sharpe was aggressive towards her and even raped her.
The woman has reportedly said that she first met Shannon Sharpe at a gym in Los Angeles in 2023 when she was just 19. In the lawsuit, she further claimed their relationship was rocky and that Sharpe often threatened her by saying he would choke or slap her. She said that when she told him “no,” he didn’t listen and raped her, even though she was crying and screaming for him to stop.
She also claimed that Sharpe secretly recorded some of their sexual encounters without her consent and shared the videos with his friends. The woman is asking for over USD 50 million (Rs 426 crore approx) in damages. Although the woman has said that Sharpe mistreated more than just her, she hasn’t shared details about any other women in the lawsuit.
“After many months of manipulating and controlling Plaintiff — a woman more than thirty years younger than he — and repeatedly threatening to brutally choke and violently slap her, Sharpe refused to accept the answer no and raped Plaintiff, despite her sobbing and repeated screams of ’no,’” the complaint read as quoted by BBC . Sharpe has strongly denied all the accusations. He posted a video on Instagram calling the lawsuit a “shakedown.
” He said “I’m going to be open, transparent and defend myself, because this isn’t right.” Sharpe also said that the woman’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee, filed a “fraudulent” lawsuit and warned that he might sue for defamation. Buzbee is known for representing women who accused NFL star Deshaun Watson of sexual assault and was also involved in a case against rapper Jay-Z that was later dropped.
Sharpe claimed that the woman’s lawyer might try to release a short, edited clip from a private video to make him look guilty. He challenged them to release the full video instead of just a small piece. “I believe he’s going to release a 30-second clip of a sex tape that tries to make me look guilty and play into every stereotype you could possibly imagine.
That video should actually be 10 minutes or so. Hey, Tony, instead of releasing your edit, put the whole video out. I don’t have it, or I would myself,” Sharpe said.
