PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers brought Guerschon Yabusele back to the NBA after five seasons overseas and a strong Olympic run for France. The former first-round pick of the Boston Celtics in 2016 played two seasons for the Cs before playing internationally. In his first season back in the NBA, Yabusele averaged 11.
0 points and 5.6 rebounds while shooting 38% from deep. He was a constant for the Sixers as he was able to play in 70 games with 43 starts and was somebody coach Nick Nurse could turn to on a nightly basis.
As the Sixers now head into the offseason, one of the goals is to bring back The Dancing Bear. He will be an unrestricted free agent, but one has to believe President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey and Co. will want to bring him back.
"We love what Guerschon was able to bring," Morey said when the season ended. "I think that was a great job by our scouting department. A great job by the coaching staff getting the most out of him.
Just like Paul (George), he got pressed into some roles that were a little different that he thought. We thought he was gonna play more of the 4 and he’s excelled there. He gave us a lot of minutes at the 5 as well.
"To Morey's point, Yabusele had to play so many different roles for the Sixers. He played a lot of minutes at the center spot due to the injuries to Joel Embiid and Andre Drummond and he thrived for the Sixers. He was able to produce at both big men spots and Philadelphia will be looking to retain him and keep him in the regular rotation.
"The team going forward, I think his mix of minutes will be a little different when we’re healthy and we really like his fit going forward so we would like to retain him," Morey finished. "Obviously, he’s an unrestricted free agent so it’s not for sure whenever that happens, but we would like to retain him."To Morey's point, Yabusele could receive an offer from a team he can't refuse, but at this point in time, the Sixers have made it clear that they want to bring him back and make things work with him.
He is a valuable player who can do so many things out on the floor so Philadelphia will be looking to keep him in tow. This article originally appeared on Sixers Wire: Sixers express interest in retaining Guerschon Yabusele in free agency.
