South Korea operator SK Telecom (SKT) started investigating a data breach of SIM-related information carried out by an unidentified hacker after detecting and deleting malware in its systems.The operator explained in a statement it isolated a suspected hacking device and has so far detected no misuse of personal information. To protect customers, the company said it is strengthened measures to block illegal SIM card changes and abnormal authentication attempts, and beefed up security systems to prevent a recurrence.

SKT reported the leak to the Korea Internet and Security Agency and the Personal Information Protection Commission, and is cooperating with authorities.A system-wide investigation is looking into the exact cause of the breach as well as the scale and specific personal data leaked.SKT noted customers seeking additional security measures, including notifications via its website, can sign up for its free SIM card protection service.
