On April 17, SK Telecom (SKT) announced that it held a meeting to discuss collaboration on quantum business with IonQ, a U.S. quantum computing company led by CEO Nicolo De Masi (ionq.
com). The meeting took place at the T Tower in Euljiro, Seoul, and was attended by notable figures including Peter Chapman, Chairman of the Board at IonQ, Thomas Kramer, Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Philip Farah, Head of Corporate and Strategic Partnerships, and Jin Jae-hyung, Country Manager for South Korea, who met with key SKT officials, including CEO Yoo Young-sang. In February, SKT established a strategic partnership with IonQ that included equity exchange to prepare for the AI and quantum era.
This recent meeting was held to continue discussions on their collaboration. During the meeting, SKT and IonQ reaffirmed their mutual interest in areas such as quantum networking and quantum security and agreed to steadily enhance and develop their cooperation in these fields. Additionally, they explored the possibility of expanding SKT’s partnerships related to quantum security with various government and corporate entities to include quantum computing.
SKT and IonQ agreed to maintain and strengthen their collaboration on quantum security with ID Quantique (IDQ) and committed to jointly promote the potential of quantum computing. “Our cooperation with IonQ presents an opportunity for SKT to expand its business scope into quantum computing as well as quantum security," said Yoo Young-sang, CEO of SKT.
