Sleeping position could age you by years as doctor issues warning

One doctor detailed the 10 surprising habits that could be ageing you faster than you expect, from your sleeping position to using straws and smoking

While ageing is a natural part of life, 10 daily habits could be adding years onto your looks unnecessarily. Dr Kate Jameson from detailed the simple fixes Brits can also put in place to get their youth back, as she warned: “Don’t let these sneaky age-accelerators catch you off guard.” The habits cover many common behaviours that a lot of us will have fallen prey to at some point.

That covers everything from how we sleep to what we drink. What we eat clearly makes a difference, too. So be aware - and keep an eye on these tips.

The way a person sleeps has been tied to a number of health impacts but sleeping on your stomach or side in particular can add years to your face, according to the doctor. She noted that this can cause a person’s face to scrunch up against the pillow leading to permanent sleep lines and wrinkles. Instead, she recommended Brits sleep on their back for the most wrinkle-free nights and invest in silk pillowcases to reduce friction against their skin.

Despite the countless cloudy days across the UK, Dr Jameson urged Brits to never skip on their sunscreen, explaining: “UV rays penetrate clouds and cause skin damage every day.” She particularly recommended SPF 30 sunscreen for daily use. Whether plastic, paper or metal, Dr Jameson warned that regularly using straws can cause fine lines around your mouth, similar to the effects of smoking.

The fix for this common habit is simply to avoid using straws and drink directly from your cup. Blue light fro.
