“Many people have only a vague or incomplete understanding of the benefits of social security, or are not aware of it at all,” he said during a dialogue between the Sungai Merah village security and development committee (JKKK) and the Social Security Organisation (Socso) yesterday. His text-of-speech was delivered by Penghulu Stephen Yong.Tiang said according to the Employees Social Security Act 1969, when a person enters the workforce, employers must register and contribute to social insurance for their employees.
Failure to do so could result in a maximum imprisonment of two years, a fine of RM10,000, or both.“Responsible and conscientious employers who understand the importance of using the law to protect themselves and their employees will definitely comply with these legal requirements.”He touched on the Housewives’ Social Security Scheme (SKSSR), which allows housewives under the age of 55 to contribute to Socso.
“The annual premium is RM120, which averages out to just RM10 per month. If housewives suffer an accident or disability while performing their duties, they will be covered under the scheme,” he said.Meanwhile, he said he has always emphasised the welfare of hawkers in his Pelawan constituency.
He said that was why he launched the ‘Pelawan Hawkers Social Insurance Benefit Scheme’ to safeguard the personal and family welfare of hawkers. He said any hawkers operating in food courts or hawker centres within the Pelawan constituency, or hawkers who are voters in Pelawan, can apply to receive the free social insurance plan. However, the scheme is limited to only 100 people on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Hawkers only need to bring their business license and registration copy to the service centre,” he said. Also present was the event’s organising chairman Soh Keo Yew.The post Social security not unnecessary or a waste of money, says S’wak deputy minister appeared first on Borneo Post Online.
