After months of nominations, voting, and a huge year for us and our startup partners, the curtains have officially closed on Startups of The Year 2024. With over 150,000 startups in the running and more than 4 million votes cast, this was our biggest edition yet. Shout-out to all the participating startups for changing the world one product/service at a time.
We’re excited to announce the Startups of The Year across Africa!The African startup scene has been gaining serious momentum over the past decade. Founders across the continent are building smart, practical solutions to real-world problems—from mobile payments in Lagos to agri-tech tools in Nairobi. It’s a space full of energy, grit, and talent, with ideas that often start local but scale fast.
Fintech is leading the way, while healthtech, edtech, e-commerce, and sustainability-focused startups are quickly gaining ground. Global investors are taking notice too, with VC funding in the region now crossing the billion-dollar mark each year—a clear sign that Africa’s tech ecosystem is maturing.Before we get into the region’s top Startups, let’s look at some key stats.
