Hello and welcome to the bet365 Stadium for a Good Friday Championship showdown between Stoke City and Sheffield Wednesday. Stoke have returned home after a key win at Cardiff last Saturday to play in front of a packed house in a match that has the potential to going a long way to securing their status in the Championship. A ticket offer and hope emerging under Mark Robins has combined to inspire the biggest crowd here since the Premier League days in 2018.
But, Robins has been keen to point out, there is still a lot of work to do and tricky fixtures follow this one against promotion-chasing Leeds United and Sheffield United and a final day visit to relegation-fighting Derby County, who have been transformed under John Eustace. Wednesday still technically have something to play for too and came into this afternoon as one of three clubs in the division who can still theoretically win promotion or go down . But, in the real world, Danny Rohl has managed to guide them safely into mid-table despite significant chaos off the pitch, including unpaid wages.
